Cropped with almost photographic precision, the figure is reduced to a hand, an arm and the folded geometry of a seated body. Mona von Wittlage’s use of ink oscillates between solidity and fragility. The deep black of the garment contrasts with the softly modelled flesh tones, while the expansive white of the paper surrounds the figure with an atmosphere of stillness.
