Armed Nude
Blood and graphite on sanitary bags
142 x 120 cm
2008
In Armed Nude, Mona von Wittlage juxtaposes the vulnerability of the naked body with the stark presence of weaponry. A female figure, traced in blood and graphite, emerges across the fragile surface of sanitary bags, her form both exposed and armed. The intimacy of the body and the cold utility of the gun collide, creating a disquieting dialogue between desire and danger, fragility and power.
The repeated warnings printed on the support—mundane reminders of disposal—echo like background noise against the visceral immediacy of the painted figure. Blood stains the surface with both life and loss, transforming the work into a reflection on control, violence, and mortality.
Armed Nude unsettles, not by spectacle, but by its paradox: the coexistence of seduction and threat, the body as both origin and battleground.
