A faceless figure emerges from the white expanse of the paper, her identity concealed behind a cascading veil of dark hair. Reduced to a few essential forms, the body appears suspended between revelation and erasure, as though materialising from memory only to dissolve again into silence.

The composition draws its emotional force from what remains absent. Vast areas of untouched paper surround the figure, transforming emptiness into an active presence. Through the stark dialogue of black ink and luminous white space, Mona von Wittlage evokes the fragility of human existence and the elusive nature of perception itself.

Neither portrait nor narrative, the work becomes a meditation on anonymity, vulnerability and the fleeting traces we leave behind. The figure lingers before the viewer like a half-remembered apparition—at once intimate, distant and profoundly human.
