In Home Straight Berlin 1, Mona von Wittlage stages a surreal encounter between sport, history, and fragility. A nude figure, painted in blood, swings a golf club in the heart of Berlin, facing the monumental Brandenburg Gate drawn in graphite. The gesture—casual, playful, absurd—collides with the weight of history embodied by the iconic landmark.
Blood marks the body with transience, setting its vitality against the cold permanence of stone and architecture. The juxtaposition destabilizes both: the gate becomes a backdrop for fleeting human action, while the figure’s fragility becomes a counterweight to monumental endurance.
Home Straight Berlin 1 reflects on the tension between leisure and legacy, the intimate pulse of the living body set against the immovable symbols of power.
