Foggy Outlook
Blood and graphite on paper
220 x 150 cm
2021
Suspended between mountain and cloud, Foggy Outlook captures the fragile frontier where vision falters and the world dissolves into silence. Peaks rise like immovable sentinels, drawn in graphite’s restrained precision, yet they are enveloped in a sea of vapour, obscuring certainty and swallowing direction.
At the edge of this vast whiteness, a solitary figure — rendered in the vital crimson of blood — stands dwarfed by immensity, poised in a gesture at once playful and existential. The golfer’s swing arcs into nothingness, an action defiant in its absurdity, fragile in its insistence. Each movement becomes a metaphor for human striving: a stroke against the unknown, an affirmation of presence in a landscape that resists comprehension.
The work balances monumentality with fragility, permanence with transience. It evokes both Caspar David Friedrich’s Romantic sublime and the contemporary anxiety of facing futures clouded, horizons blurred. In the space where fog meets form, the viewer is invited to dwell — in uncertainty, in awe, in the tenuous beauty of not knowing.
